Do you need followers to be a UGC creator?
Followers may matter for a post or platform gate, but file-only work is a different offer. Check the brief and account permissions.
Usually not for a file-only job: the buyer pays you to make a video and runs it from its own advertising account. Followers can matter when a job asks you to post, authorize an ad from your account, or meet a marketplace’s entry rules. Check the exact brief and current platform requirements before applying. A small following does not guarantee work, and a large one does not guarantee a booking.
Check what the offer asks you to do
| Offer | What you provide | When followers or account access may matter |
|---|---|---|
| Video file | Make and deliver an agreed file | The buyer’s brief and content skill may matter more than audience size |
| Creator post | Publish to your channel and report agreed results | Audience fit, account status and posting rules may matter |
| Spark or partnership ad | Authorize a post or account for paid use | The platform’s current eligibility and the scope of authorization matter |
| Identity licence | Permit defined use of your face, voice or name | The agreement, campaign fit and approval steps matter; it is a separate permission |
Billo says a standard video job does not require a social-media following or a post; posting and Partnership Ads are optional paid add-ons on that platform. JoinBrands lists Content Only and Content + Posting as separate job types. These are examples of those services, not a rule for every marketplace. Billo creator page; JoinBrands creator guide.
Insense’s current account guide lists minimum audience requirements of 1,000 followers and 1,000 views for Instagram and TikTok, and asks creators to connect social accounts. The page does not explain whether both profiles must meet each threshold or which locations the rule covers. Confirm those details before applying. Insense account guide.
Read the permission beside the follower rule
TikTok Spark Ads let advertisers run organic TikTok posts as ads with the creator’s authorization. A creator may provide permission for a particular post; other routes can involve an account. Ask whether the offer requests one named post or broader account access, what the dates are, whether renewal is allowed, and how to end authorization. TikTok’s interface and account options can change. TikTok About Spark Ads; TikTok Identity feature.
For a hypothetical file-only offer, the buyer asks for one product demonstration to run from its own ad account. You do not post it or grant access to your profile. The quote should still state the deliverable, fee, payment date, permitted edits, channels, term and any identity use. A small following does not make production work free.
If the buyer later asks for a post or Spark authorization, treat that as added work and permission. Ask what the buyer will pay for it and what account access the platform requires. See how creator-account ads work and what belongs in a creator portfolio.
Where Semblanse fits
Semblanse is pre-launch, not a general UGC job board. Its planned paid pilot centres on campaign-specific identity permission, creator context and approval of each final ad. A brand may produce within the agreed licence, or choose the Semblanse team to make the ad during the pilot. The pilot has no proven booking volume or creator-income result, and its fees and acceptance terms must be agreed. See the creator pilot information.
A follower count is one detail of a particular job. Before you agree, separate making a file, publishing to an audience, granting account authorization and licensing identity.
Connect this decision to the campaign
The brand service is intended to test identity and context with buyer-funded distribution. The format comparison helps separate that from paying for a post. It does not establish a performance premium for an unfamiliar or recognizable creator.
