AI likeness licensing is permission to use a real person's identity in defined AI-made content. For an ad, agree whose face, voice or name may appear, what the ad may say, where it may run and when use ends. Generation access and permission to advertise are separate checks.
A tool can produce a video without settling the creator's rights. A signed campaign licence also does not establish that a tool can meet its limits or that an advertising claim is true.
Who does what
| Party | Contribution to agree |
|---|---|
| Creator | Identity permission, real stories, tone, boundaries and review |
| Advertiser | Product facts, claim evidence, media plan and payment |
| Agency or production team | Scripts, selected tools, finished files and revisions |
| Generation vendor | Processing and generation under its own terms and settings |
| Licensing service | Agreed scope, permission and approval records, payment steps and expiry work |
In Semblanse's proposed pilots, the buyer normally supplies production. Our team may also help make the ads during the pilot. The service and its controls still need testing in paid campaigns.
An annotated campaign record
Fictional planning example. No campaign or customer result is shown.
| Record | Illustrative entry | Why it matters |
|---|---|---|
| Advertiser and creator | Fictional Northlight Home; Creator A | An agency's name alone does not identify the advertiser |
| Identity | Face and English synthetic voice | Face permission does not settle voice or translation |
| Use | Two 20-second ads; named brand Instagram account | New files and account use must fit the agreed scope |
| Territory and term | Ontario; 1–30 November 2026, Toronto time | Production time and advertising time need clear limits |
| Story and claims | Explaining lamp controls; no personal sleep claim | A likeness licence does not prove product experience |
| Tools and samples | Named producer and vendor, subject to agreed processing | Check model setup, access and retention before capture |
| Reviews | Script review and approval of both exact final files | A new claim or voice line returns for review |
| End of term | Media buyer stops ads; campaign owner checks evidence | An expiry date needs a person responsible for it |
Use the campaign brief for creative planning and the licence checklist for agreement questions.
From brief to expiry
- Name the advertiser, objective, creator fit and production team.
- Capture the creator's relevant stories and limits.
- Agree the campaign scope, tools, payment and review process in writing.
- Make the scoped drafts and record requested changes.
- Obtain the agreed reviews and final-file approvals before launch.
- Run only the accepted files through the named accounts.
- Stop, remove or renew under the agreement; check access and retained records.
These are planning steps, not a claim that Semblanse has shipped automated controls. Read our planned trust process.
Which kind of offer do you need?
Filmed UGC buys recorded creative work. Actor libraries supply presenters under provider-specific permissions. Influencer posting also buys distribution through the creator's account. Training-data licensing permits a different use of source material, while likeness monitoring helps find suspected misuse. None automatically settles the others.
Compare filmed UGC, AI actors and licensed creators or use the provider market map.
Questions to settle before you choose
Does face permission include voice? Only if the agreed scope covers it. Record languages and synthetic speech separately.
Must the creator post? Semblanse's proposed campaign model makes posting optional. Creator-account access needs its own agreement.
Does script approval cover the finished ad? Record both stages if required. The performance, captions or edit may change meaning.
Does ad permission allow training? Do not assume so. Semblanse's intended campaign licence grants no training rights to the brand; production processing or model setup needs its own specific review and permission.
Does expiry delete every copy? A stop date controls agreed use. It does not prove that all copies vanished. Agree removal evidence, sample handling and escalation.
Where Semblanse fits now
We are recruiting for proposed managed paid pilots with recognizable niche creators, creator context, narrow campaign permissions and final approval. Pricing and scope need a written quote; a public production API and self-service marketplace are unavailable. No performance or cost advantage has been established.
See the service for brands and agencies, pilot scope or discuss your brief. Creators can apply for the pilot waitlist.
