If your brief needs a particular creator, first check whether you need generation tools, permission and creator input, or both. Arcads advertises custom avatars as well as an AI actor library. It should not be ruled out on the assumption that it cannot represent a real person.
Publisher disclosure: Semblanse wrote this decision guide. We checked Arcads' homepage on 26 October 2026. It describes library actors, custom avatars and generation/editing tools. We did not test its app, verify a particular avatar's terms or audit its consent process.
Use this decision tree
- Do you need one named creator? If no, compare suitable actor-library and filmed options against the message and permitted ad use.
- Do you have their specific synthetic-use permission? If no, settle that with the creator or a suitable licensing partner before uploading samples.
- Does a tool support the exact creator, processing and intended use? Ask Arcads or another producer to confirm. If yes and your team can deliver the work, a tool may be enough.
- Do you also need creator discovery, context, negotiation, review and expiry work? Assess a licensing service or a managed partner that can scope those tasks.
This is a task-based choice, not a ranking of video quality or a claim that library actors are fictional, unlicensed or non-consenting.
Three routes for a particular creator
| Route | Buyer supplies | Questions still to settle |
|---|---|---|
| Existing creator plus generation tool | Creator relationship, permission, producer and review owner | Custom-avatar access, sample processing, ad rights and exact-file approvals |
| Managed production partner | Brief, product evidence, creator criteria and budget | Who obtains rights, makes files, corrects drafts and stops use |
| Campaign-specific licensing service | Named advertiser, production needs and media scope | Creator availability, context capture, review duties, full quote and expiry |
HeyGen's own site also describes personal-avatar video creation. Check the exact asset, account permissions, supported workflow and terms rather than treating all avatar products as interchangeable.
Include the work beyond generation
Budget for creator permission and context, capture if needed, tool charges, production, rejected drafts, revisions, claim checks, approvals and rights records. Count usable approved ads. A subscription price cannot establish the complete cost of a specific-creator campaign.
If an actual product interaction or personal experience matters, a filmed scene may be the better plan. Compare production approaches and use the total-cost sheet.
Where Semblanse may help
Our proposed managed pilots focus on recognizable niche creators, their stories and boundaries, campaign permissions and final-ad review. Buyers normally use their own production team; help with production can be discussed during the pilot. We do not offer a replacement self-service generator or a production API.
An existing partner can be discussed as a proposed scenario; acceptance is not guaranteed. No cost or performance advantage has been proven. Use the existing-partnership guide, market map and pilot overview to decide whether an enquiry makes sense.
Found a factual error or a changed offer? Send a correction to the team. These pages explain buying and planning choices; they do not replace a signed agreement or advice on your campaign.
